Palladam Hi-tech Weaving Park bags National Award

The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, launched Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) in the year 2005 to provide the industry with state of the art world class infrastructure facilities for setting up of the textile units. The scheme provides 40 per cent of the project cost subject to a ceiling of Rs. 40 crores for establishing the park. 70 textile parks have been benefited out of the scheme.

Palladam Hi-tech Weaving Park (PHWP) was one of the first parks established under the scheme and achieved the targets as per the detailed project report and became operational. This park was given Rs. 22.17 crores as Central Government grant and was also sanctioned nine per cent of the project cost as one time grant ie Rs.4.98 crores by the Tamilnadu Government. This park consists of 90 weaving sheds of various sizes with a total built up area of seven lakh square feet. Currently 400 shuttleless looms are operating in the park. The total investment made in the park is around Rs. 360 crores and provides direct employment to 3000 people and indirect employment to 2500 people.

Mr. M.Senthilkumar, Chairman and Managing Director of PHWP said in a recent press release that PHWP was honoured by the Ministry of Textiles – GOI as the best performing park out of 70 parks in the nation at a workshop conducted by the Ministry of Textiles in the wake of Make-in-India program held at Surat on the 9th of April 2015, wherein the honourable Union Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge), Mr. Santhosh Kumar Gangwar gave away the award to the park. Mr. Senthilkumar thanked the Ministry of Textiles for recognising the hard work put in by the team of promoters. He further said that the park continues to avail the benefits under various schemes including Textile Workers’ Hostel Scheme, Apparel Unit Scheme, Skill Development Scheme and many more and plays a lead role in the schemes of the Ministry of Textiles. He has stated that any VIP visitor relating to textile business visiting Coimbatore spends adequate time in PHWP and has been highly appreciating the success model of the park.

PHWP CMD has stated that Mrs. Gokula Indira, Honourable minister for Handlooms and Textiles, Mr. M.S.M. Anandan, Hon’ble Minister for Forests, Mr. K.P. Paramasivam, MLA, Palladam constituency, Mr. Harmander Singh IAS, Principal Secretary to Govt of Tamilnadu, Mr. G.Govindaraj, IAS, Tirupur District Collector visited the park on the 16th April 2015 and highly appreciated the efforts taken by the promoters of the park making it the best in the nation.

Mr. Senthilkumar also stated that the park is fully gearing itself to produce high value added items like made-ups textiles and also ready-made garments and that it would soon become a bench marking centre for producing high value added items including technical textiles.
