Ahujasons Shawl Wale’s Rs. 140-crore expansion plan

Ahujasons Shawl Wale Ltd., very popular among the Delhiites, will invest up to Rs. 140 crores to expand its retail footprint in India and overseas. “We plan to open 12 showrooms in India and six overseas in the next five years. We will invest Rs. 120-140 crores to expand our retail presence, funded mostly from internal accruals,” Ahujasons Shawl Wale’s Retail Head, Mr. Bhuvan Ahuja, told a news agency recently.

New showrooms will be a mix of company-owned and franchised. At present, the company has two retail outlets in Delhi and one in Tokyo. It plans to open showrooms in Kolkata, Hong Kong and Beijing next year.

Though the family-run company doesn’t disclose its financials, it is learnt that it sells over 20 lakh units per year. Despite local expansion, exports currently touching 60 per cent of the total turnover, will play a greater role in the future.

“Exports is a very important part of the group as it creates brand awareness and market in international domain. Also, it contributes to volumes of the business which helps in strengthening the relations with suppliers,” Mr. Ahuja added.

The company was founded in 1979 with its first store opened in Delhi and started exports in 1992 with the opening of its first overseas office in Paris.
