DBL Group completes 25 years of outstanding performance

The DBL Group of Bangladesh has successfully completed 25 years of its operations. Since inception in 1991, the group has grown into a conglomerate of 21 companies. With a strong team of 25,972 employees achieving a turnover of $365 million during 2015-16, it is a diversified business entity which has vertically integrated textile and apparel manufacturing facilities, with concerns in ICT & telecommunications and ceramic tiles.

A diversified and integrated knit garments manufacturing and composite industry leader with a strong backward linkage, the group is one of the largest and 100 per cent export-oriented composite knit garments and textiles manufacturing firms. It produces single jersey, pique, fleece, terry, rib, interlock and variegated fabrics. The fibers used are cotton, viscose, polyester, rayon and elastane.

Over the years, the quality products of repute from the group have led strong business relations with leading clothing brands like H&M, Walmart, George, Esprit, Puma, etc. The group is the largest vertically integrated producer in Bangladesh.

Expanding its horizon, DBL has now moved to Ethopia and is setting up an integrated textile and garment factory titled DBL Industries PLC. The DBL Group supplies quality apparels to globally renowned retailers and is focused on upholding the reputation of the readymade garments and textiles industry of Bangladesh. Along with continuing growth of RMG sector in the country it is also busy expanding its RMG capacity.

Spinning

DBL Group’s Matin Spinning Mills Ltd., is one of the most modern spinning mills in Bangladesh with 50,000 spindles. Well equipped with the best machinery available, the company also has a testing laboratory with modern machines and instruments.

In 2016, Matin Spinning Mills opened its expanded melange unit to expand its production capacity by 10 tons per day of melange yarn to meet the company’s growing demand for quality yarn. The additional capacity of producing melange yarn will boost the total capacity to 35 tonnes a day. The expanded melange unit is one of the most modern spinning mills in Bangladesh having machines from Trutzschler, Rieter, Toyota, Murata and Marzoli.

Matin Spinning has also invested in increasing production capacity of its synthetic unit from 7 tons to 16 tons per day to meet the growing market demand as well as that of the sister concerns.

With the completion of mélange yarn project the installed capacity of spindles has gone up from 39,600 to 57,840. On completion of the synthetic yarn project the capacity of installed spindles will be increased to 73,184 having production capacity of 51 tons per day. This will increase the revenue earnings of the company substantially.

Meanwhile, the DBL Group has signed an agreement with PwC India for implementing Oracle ERP solutions across the company. By implementing end-to-end business solutions through Oracle ERP, DBL wants to bring global best practices, transparency, better operational efficiency and give management the dashboard to make quick decisions. DBL also signed an agreement with Aamra Technologies for Microsoft Cloud services.

Infrastructural strength

The DBL Group, with a knitting capacity of 45 tons per day, has 133 circular knitting machines from Mayer and Cie., Terrot and Fukuhara for producing single jersey, auto stripe, fleece, rib and interlock.

DBL’s dyeing and washing facilities comprising advanced machinery and are among the leaders in the garments dyeing and washing industry in Bangladesh. The company’s onsite lab creates quality color in the minimum time as per its customer needs and demands. DBL’s offers several washing treatment to meet the customer’s satisfaction. With a dyeing capacity of 90 tons/day, dyeing machines include Sclavos (Greece) models – Venus, Athena-1, Athena-2 and Athena-3. Finishing line includes Brückner, Osthoff (Germany), Santex (Switzerland), TubeTex (USA), Ferraro, Lafer, Corino and Bianco (Italy).

DBL has the capability to dye and finish cotton, viscose, modal, nylon, polyester, wool, silk and its blends and with elastane, and also very light to heavy fabrics; Finishing includes brushing, sueding, shearing, and singeing

The company has invested in the most modern washing technology. With a capacity of 68,440 for normal wash and 20,000 pcs/day for acid wash. It has invested in the Tonello (Italy) and Nagaishing (China) machines. The company can offer different types of washes, including, heavy garments, heavy enzyme, alkali, burnout, heave perlite, crinkle acid, PP spray + enzyme, oil, dirty dyeing, and pigment color spray + enzyme.

Printing

DBL has also facilities for both fabric and garments printing under separate business units. The company has introduced in Bangladesh the latest laser engraving technology from Europe for fabric printing. The garments printing makes use of manual systems and also incorporates modern technology with automated systems.

DBL has also established printing capacity of 20 tons per day. It has invested in two rotary printing (Reggiani, Italy: 20-color head & MHM, Austria: 12-color head) and another flat printing (Reggiani, Italy: 20-color head).

For garment printing DBL has capacity of over 100,000 pieces per day. It has installed one M&R (USA), four MHM (Austria) and 10 manual machines (label print); manual table with travelling carriage – 2,000 ft.

Apparel sector

DBL is among the largest knit garment manufacturers and exporters of Bangladesh. Its major markets include Europe, the US and Canada and is the Platinum Supplier of H&M for knit garments. H&M, Walmart-George, Puma, Esprit and G-Star are among its major buyers.

DBL has also its capacity of 9 million pcs/month which includes Women 40 per cent, Men 20 per cent and Kids 40 per cent. It has 5,000 sewing machines of various types including single needle, overlock, interlock, Kansai, Feed off the Arm, B/H, B/S, Zigzag, etc.

Mr. Abdul Wahed is a prominent business leader in the textile and RMG sector of Bangladesh. After completion of Bachelor of Science, he started his professional life with construction business in 1982. Later, in 1991, he, along with his other three brothers, ventured into readymade garments export business by setting up a factory known as Dulal Brothers Ltd. His overall experience inspired Dulal Brothers to invest in backward linkage industries of fabric knitting and dyeing which finally culminates into Matin Spinning Mills Ltd., a state-of-the-art unit which is not only one of the best in Bangladesh but worth comparable with spinning mills across the world.

Mr. Wahed is a freedom fighter too. He is a proactive member of different social organizations working in areas of education, health, orphanage, etc. He is also an eloquent speaker being able to enthral the audience at the various seminars he is participating on the social and business front. He was selected as Commercial Important Person (Export) by the Bangladesh Government for 2011.

Mr. M.A. Jabbar is a distinguished personality in the RMG sector. He is the main architect of the DBL Group. He completed his graduation in Computer Science in the US. He returned Bangladesh with a vision to make valuable contribution in the country’s economy. He has been instrumental in developing the company into a well-reputed one.

He joined Dulal Brothers Ltd. as a Marketing Director and was able to secure increasing export orders for garments, in particular from buyers in UK. His dynamic leadership brought in growth opportunities for the company resulting in setting up of more industries for Dulal Brothers Ltd. and the birth of the acronym DBL Group. His vision’s first accomplishment came in the form of DBL Group getting the HSBC Export Excellence Award 2009 in category A for business having export volume above $50 million.

Mr. Jabbar’s passion for excelling and cultivating innovation has roped in professionals from different fields to join DBL Group and explore their hidden talents. He is the chief architect of Vision 2020 through which DBL Group has to achieve a visible contribution to the GDP of Bangladesh before it steps into 2021, the Golden Jubilee celebration year of the country independence.
