Filatex has established a respectable position in the polyester filament yarn industry in India. The company is manufacturing an increasing proportion of value-added yarns with versatile applications. It is balancing its product portfolio and debottlenecking its capacity to enhance margins. The company’s total capacity increased from 500 MTPA to 236,500 MTPA over the last 25 years.

Filatex started functioning in 1994 with a small plant at Noida in Uttar Pradesh to manufacture nylon and polyester yarn. Soon, another plant was set up at Dadra, which gradually expanded from 15 TPD to 130 TPD now. The next venture that followed was at Dahej in Gujarat where a modern state-of-art yarn facility with continuous polymerization was set up. Today Filatex has achieved a turnover of around Rs. 1,500 crores, employing around 1,700 people.

Filatex is a pioneer in production of monofilament yarns in the Indian market. During 1990-1995 the company set up its plant in Noida with an annual capacity of 500 MT to manufacture polyester, nylon and polypropylene monofilament yarns from chips.

In its phase 2 expansion between 1996 and 2011, the company set up its plant in Dadra diversifying into polyester POY and textured yarn, polypropylene multi-filament dope dyed yarns and fully drawn yarns (FDY). The company soon installed texturizing machines and narrow woven fabric looms.

Filatex’ phase 3 expansion between 2012 to 2015 was by setting up a plant at Dahej which is a fully integrated plant from raw material to finished products. The company also set up a poly-condensation plant envisaging 600 TPD and 250 TPD of POY and 350 TPD of polyester chips.

In 2016, Filatex further invested in its Dahej plant and commenced production of 115 TPD of FDY. It added 42 texturizing machines to improve the product mix (the key input for DTY is POY) and commenced production of 200 TPD in September 2016.

Filatex has just started commercial production at the bright polymerisation facility, as bright yarn is gaining increasing acceptance in non-apparel application as well. After commissioning the bright polymer facility, the company has now a full range of product basket of filament yarn – POY, DTY and FDY both in semi-dull & bright segments in all varieties of coarse and fine deniers.

The facilities at the Dadra plant will be utilized to produce colour yarns and special yarns made from own / bought out chips customized to the customer needs.
