For many decades, technical textiles are playing an important role in the manufacturing process of these belts.

Olbo & Mehler Tex (OMT), part of a multi-business entity Mehler AG of Germany, is engaged in the manufacture of conveyor belt fabrics and fabrics for special application. Beginning its journey in 1837 as a player in the rubber industry, the company has, over the years, diversified and grown into an international enterprise. Today, Mehler AG, through its subsidiaries, provides technical products for textile, plastics, rubber, paper and packaging industries.

The Olbo & Mehler Tex products cater to a variety of industries like automotive, pharmaceuticals, food, safety, defense, mining, etc. Controlled manufacturing process and rigid inspection procedures give the right quality of material that is capable of solving a range of problems.

Making use of advanced twisters, wrappers, shuttleless looms and fabric treatment plants imported from the best manufacturers of the world, the focus on high quality fabrics remains high at OMT. As a result, its conveyor belt fabrics provide superior adhesion, high tensile strength, good dimensional stability, low elongation and low post-processing growth, thus prolonging the belt life.

From more than a century, Olbo personnel have been involved in the development and manufacturing of quality coated fabrics with a dedicated R&D cell that offers global customers a wide range of flexible composite material with unlimited applications in industrial products & processes.

The range of specialty fabrics from OMT covers diaphragm fabrics, impregnated liner fabrics, chemical protection fabrics, fabrics for defence, aramid fabrics, basalt fabrics and breaker fabrics, all offered in different GSM and microns, thus satisfying diverse client requirements.

In 1996, Olbo established a production facility near the large port city of Porto in Portugal. With locational advantages, the plant has a monthly production capacity of 800-1000 tonnes with scope for expansion, if needed.

Touching on the importance of the Indian market in an exclusive interview to The Textile Magazine, Mr. Alberto Tavares, CEO, Olbo & Mehler, observed: “India is an important market of the future for Olbo & Mehler. There is potential to do great business within a number of sectors in India. We currently do a business of 1 million euro in India but would like to see those numbers increase in the next couple of years.”

At this year’s Techtextil Show, OMT showcased innovative fabrics for flame-retardant application, heat-resistant items and special products for the food industry.
