ACIMIT looking forward to action-packed 2015

The year 2015 is expected to be a very important one for ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers and all its members. First, ACIMIT completes 70 years in 2015. Second, the much-awaited ITMA 2015 will be held in Milan after nearly 20 long years. Besides, Milan will also be the host city for World Expo 2015 which will be held from mid-May to the end of October. All these events are expected to bring business delegations from all over the world and increased levels of activity.

ACIMIT has aptly chosen Ms. Rafaella Carabelli, Sales Director of Fadia S.P.A., to head the association and handle the responsibilities during this hectic and busy period. She took over as ACIMIT President in June 2013. Since then it’s been action packed.

Talking about ITMA 2015, Ms. Carabelli said that the results are very positive. The Italian textile machinery manufacturers have taken 46 per cent more space compared to ITMA 2011 at Barcelona. As on date, nearly 28,000 sq.m. space will be occupied by Italian companies, the highest so far.

Out of the total textile and related machinery production in Europe, Italy accounts for 30 per cent, which translates to Euro 50 billion worth of business only from the textile industry. No wonder, textiles continues to be a very important driver of Italy’s economic growth.

Over 380 Italian exhibitors are slated to be present at ITMA 2015, a 19 per cent increase over that at ITMA 2011 held in Barcelona. Of greater significance is the surface area of exhibition space already booked for the show (+46%). As Ms. Carabelli confirms: “These figures don’t just place Italy as the leader among the countries exhibiting at the trade fair; above all, they testify to the vitality of our industry and the belief in all of us that Italy’s textile sector is enjoying a period of good health.”

While machinery manufacturers have focused on technology innovations to showcase at what has always been considered the pre-eminent international event for the industry, ACIMIT, with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Italian Trade Agency, has implemented a whole range of activities aimed at promoting Italy’s textile machinery sector and its participation at ITMA 2015.

Among the various initiatives planned are the incoming missions of foreign delegations which will bring to Italy during the course of 2015 close to 200 textile operators hailing from around a dozen countries, including Bangladesh, Iran, Egypt and Pakistan, in order to present to them the best of what Italian textile technology has to offer.

Thanks to ITMA 2015 Awards, about 10 students from foreign universities (Ethiopia, India, Russia and Vietnam) will get the opportunity to visit the ITMA pavilions and discover the innovations proposed by the Italian textile machinery sector. All of this will be complemented by an intense press communications campaign and two media events in June and during the event itself, with the involvement of various notable players in the Italian textile sector.

Ms. Carabelli further says: “The importance of the event has been seized by the Deputy Minister Carlo Calenda “recognizing the significance of the textile machinery industry, a sector that exports over 80% of its production to more than 130 countries, representing Italian excellence worldwide. The support offered by the Ministry and by the Italian Trade Agency makes us proud, allowing us to confidently present the combination of tradition and innovation that has always distinguished our textile sector and made us a global leader, to all of the industry operators who will flowing into Milan in November 2015.”

“Export represents for the Italian textile machinery industry a well-established vocation, almost an innate characteristic” says Roberto Luongo, General Director of Italian Trade Agency, “and for this reason we usually support ACIMIT and the companies of the sector. We are  aware that ITMA 2015 is for all Italian companies, operating in the sector, a great opportunity. So a special project to support the presence of Italian companies at the show has been prepared with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development”.

India is the second largest market worldwide for ACIMIT and its members. Italian textile machinery manufacturers have been working very closely with Indian companies, offering high quality and technology to meet their growing needs. To further engage with the Indian customers, ACIMIT had recently organised a delegation from India to Italy consisting of senior professionals from leading textile companies like Arvind, Raymond, Grasim, Mafatlal and Sara Spintex.

The Indian delegation interacted with nearly 30 Italian textile machinery manufacturers and visited the manufacturing units of Savio, Itema, Marzoli, Lafer, Bianco, Lafer and Fadis. Raretech, a leading consulting company headed by Mr. Sandeep Chadha, helped organise the entire delegation along with ACIMIT.

Mr. Vinod Padmanabhan, Works Director – Chhindwara, Raymond, says: “The visit to Italy was indeed a fruitful and enlightening experience. The entire tour was well organized by ACIMIT. The interactions which we had with the Italian textile manufacturers at the ACIMIT headquarters were quite fruitful as I was updated on the latest technological upgradation in their machines. The plant visits were also well organized, and special care was taken to see that we were provided access to all information as desired by the delegation. Considering technological upgradation in the various Italian textile machines, we would definitely look into considering textile machines for our future requirement”.

Mr. Bhavin Desai of Mafatlal says: “We are very pleased with the visit organised by ACIMIT. It will definitely develop good bonding with all manufacturers. It was an excellent platform provided by ACIMIT to meet its members and to know about technical upgradation which will definitely help further boost our relationship”.

Talking about business in 2014, Ms. Carabelli observes: “Despite the slowdown in China and India, we have maintained our overall business in 2014. We have done well in markets like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia and the US”.

The Italian textile machinery manufacturers meet the full spectrum of industry needs (spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and laundry machinery). It’s not just the innovative high technology behind the machinery that makes the end product better, but the structure of the machinery manufacturers.

With textile manufacturing moving to low-cost countries, ACIMIT is actively identifying markets which can be potential future growth centres for its member-companies. ACIMIT had organised visits to Ethiopia and Mongolia and also participated in shows in Indonesia and Vietnam. All this has helped business development in these markets.

Indian team well impressed with Savio’s manufacturing capabilities

Savio, the Italian leader in the yarn finishing machine sector, operates worldwide in the manufacturing and marketing of automatic winders, continuous shrinkage and bulking winders, two-for-one twisters and rotor spinning frames with its manufacturing facilities in Italy, China and India.

India is one of the major global markets for Savio with its manufacturing unit in Coimbatore. In 2008, the unit started manufacturing two-for-one twisters (TFOs) for supply to the local market and later became a global manufacturing hub. India is the only location for Savio where TFOs are manufactured and exported all across the world.

“The real surprise has been with the twisting machines which has seen a marked increase in demand, so much so that our facility at Coimbatore is now fully booked for several months. Our 100 per cent Indian-made TFOs, Sirius and Cosmos, are now top sellers in the premium segment worldwide”, says Mr. Valter De Carli, Regional Sales Vice President, Savio Macchine Tessili SpA.

India has been the second largest market for Savio products for almost a decade. The company has till date sold around 3,000 automatic winders with 1,67,000 drums, 250 imported TFO twisters with 53,200 spindles, 210 indigenous TFO twisters with 43,700 spindles and 22 automatic open end spinners with 7,920 rotors to its customers like Trident, Garg Acrilics, ST Cottex and SEL in northern India, Sanathan and Vitthal in central India, Rajapalayam Mills, Loyal Group, Shree Ramalinga, Kousthuba, Mittapalli, Sitaram, Gowthami and many others in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Savio also expects a gradual improvement in the Indian market for its products in 2015.

Pozzi continues to offer high-performing energy-efficient RCR

At a time when going green and sustainability are the keywords of cleaner production and an integrated approach to contemporary textile manufacturing requirements, Pozzi Leopoldo, an Italian textile machinery manufacturer, has been among the first to work towards sustainability, designing and patenting energy-saving products. To allow the shift to a safe and sustainable low carbon and low-input economy, Pozzi offers a wide range of products from dyeing machines to chemical dispensing systems and from fixing and conditioning machinery to heat recovery units. Its RCR is the first rotating heat exchanger ever built to successfully recover heat from heavily polluted water effluents.

Pozzi has just patented a second model of rotating heat recovery system from dirty effluents. It is being verified as an environmental technology for reduced thermal pollution under the European Commission program ETV of the Environment and Climate Change Department. The company also offers reduced energy and water consumption with the patented Aquafix technology in its high-performance steaming machines and also offers “SAVE IF”, an innovative software tool for detection of hidden water and energy consumption in the wet production processes of any textile plant.

Commenting on the company’s Indian market, Mr. Alberto Pozzi says: “The Indian market represents 15 per cent share of our turnover and has always been for the last 80 years approximately with changing percentages depending on the year. We have sold a few hundred machines till date. We are at present represented by Batliboi Ltd. in India. In the future we expect an average market with equal share of demand for our steaming machines and heat recovery systems.”

In spite of the difficult economic conjunction in Europe and globally, the last few years have proved quite profitable for Pozzi. The company intends to offer high-performing and energy-efficient products to meet the growing customer demands.

Mario Crosta’s greater focus on technical textiles

Mario Crosta, a pioneer in the manufacture of textile finishing machines in Italy, has recently taken up a new role in engineering, development and construction of plants and machinery for technical textiles. The decision emanated from the idea of leveraging its 88 years of experience in designing of machines and equipment to extend its skills in technical textiles.

The exploration of these alternative items provided a basin calendar machine for settlement of thickness of felt for the footwear industry and in industrial filters. Delivery of these products to some of the automotive textile producers in Germany and Japan has taken Mario Crosta to greater heights. Last year there was an increase of 12 per cent in the overall turnover of the company for its new products with major contribution from markets like Turkey, India, China, Malaysia and Bangladesh.

Major players across the globe like Vicunha of Brazil, Ramatex of Singapore, Monks from Belgium and GTA from India have chosen Mario Crosta as a partner for polar fleece, velvet, mattress, woven, denim and knit peach skin, flame lamination and hot melt technologies which in turn highlights the confidence and respect shown to the machinery manufacturer.

The Indian market has contributed significantly to the growth of Mario Crosta. The company is present for more than a decade in India. It has sold over 120 machines to major producers of terry towel, leisurewear and sportswear in the country. Specialized products for Indian market

The company supplied its machines to a laboratory in an Indian University for the treatment of medical products, coating and laminating light substrates, has created a new research facility which is capable of developing new products for hospitals. A head for powder scattering application was provided to a firm specializing in marine products extending its expertise in to an unknown world. Also a non-stop line for hot melt lamination has been supplied to one of the leading mattress ticking producer, for its new factory installation in the country.

For the 140-year-old De Franceschi, the current year is one of revival. It was brought back to the textile world. Moreover, ourozone washing system can resolve the problems that factories face with traditional washing process. We have also developed a laser system for marking on readymade garments which will replace the special effects on garments by chemical or the harmful sandblast process.”

With 2014 coming to an end and the world eagerly awaiting the dawn of a new year, Mr. Kassem expects the new year to be filled with lots of innovations. He also said his company is looking forward with great enthusiasm to participating in ITMA 2015 to be held in Milan.

Cubotex machines growing popular among Indian firms

Cubotex was started by Mr. P. Bolzoni and Mr. M. Cutrone in 1984 to produce machineries for dyeing pantyhose in Italy. The company also produces high performance machineries with world class technology for skeins and dyeing of twisting bobbins, both at vertical and horizontal axes. The machines are made of top quality materials and components keeping in mind the energy saving capacity.

India is one of the major markets for Cubotex which is present in the country for more than a decade. The machines supplied to this market are produced at its factory in Italy.

Commenting on the company’s position in this market, Mr. Bolzoni says: “We are proud to say that 100 per cent of our customers in India place repeated orders with us. We have more than 100 machines installed in the country, which place us as one of the main Italian manufacturers present in this market. We expect this market to be stable, as it is now, for the next few years. Also several spinning mills here are expected to start dyeing operations for adding value to their final product.”

Some of the major customers of Cubotex in India are Winsome Textile Industries, RSWM, Trident and Alps Industries. The company is represented in India by Matex India (Delhi) and Kailash Corporation (Mumbai), both technically qualified for machine installations and service.

On the company’s sustainable technology initiatives, Mr. Guiseppe Bolzoni, Cubotex, Italy, says: “We have re-engineered our machines, working on the pump and heat exchangers, to reduce the utility requirements drastically.
