Since its inception in 1996, Aarti International has emerged as a powerhouse in India’s textile industry. What began as a bold diversification from steel into spinning has transformed into a globally integrated textile company, catering to leading international brands such as H&M, Levi’s, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, Marks & Spencer, and more. With a focus on delivering quality, innovation, and sustainability, the company has built a strong foundation through a strategic mix of modern infrastructure, forward-thinking
leadership, and deep market insight.

In this in-depth interview, Mr. Vinayak Mittal, Managing Director, Aarti International Limited, shares how the company has charted an impressive growth trajectory, establishing itself as a preferred global textile partner.
Building the Aarti Legacy: From Spinning Roots to Global Recognition
Founded with a vision to offer high-quality textile solutions backed by innovation and customer-centricity, Aarti International started operations with 28,000 spindles in 1996. It was a strategic extension from the steel business, rooted in the understanding that quality and reliability must form the core of a successful manufacturing enterprise. Aarti became a trendsetter in 2000 by introducing compact yarn technology to India—a pioneering move that significantly elevated yarn quality standards in the country. Over the years, Aarti has continuously expanded its infrastructure and product lines.

The launch of Unit 2 and Unit 3 brought in compact spinning and automation technologies, such as autodoffer ring frames, roving transportation systems, and Link Coners, setting a new benchmark in operational efficiency. In 2008, with the commissioning of Unit 4 and an additional 60,000 spindles, Aarti International emerged as one of India’s largest spinning units at a single location. This enabled it to serve
larger order volumes while maintaining tight control on quality and timelines.
The company diversified into grey knitted fabrics in 2016 and took a significant leap in 2018 with the establishment of a state-of-the-art fabric processing unit. This vertical integration marked a turning point by allowing Aarti to deliver end-to-end solutions under one roof—from fibre to finished fabric. In recognition of its forward-looking practices, the company has received accolades such as the National Energy Conservation Award in 2014 and recognition from the Government of Punjab in 2024 for its technological and environmental initiatives.

Vertical Integration: Adding Value Beyond Spinning
The 2018 establishment of the fabric processing unit was a strategic move that helped Aarti transition from a leading yarn manufacturer to a full-spectrum textile solution provider. This vertical integration has enhanced the company’s ability to manage product quality, accelerate lead times, and tailor offerings to precise customer needs.
“Our clients now look for partners who can manage the full value chain. By integrating spinning with knitting, dyeing, finishing, and printing, we’re able to meet evolving buyer expectations with greater agility and control,” explains Mr. Mittal.
From fashion and lifestyle to sportswear and casuals, the ability to deliver customized fabrics with functional finishes and aesthetic appeal has given Aarti a strong foothold across industry verticals.

Sustainability at the Core
Aarti International is committed to sustainable manufacturing, and its actions speak volumes. The company implemented a fully compliant Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) effluent treatment plant in 2018, which now recycles over 1,800 kilolitres of water daily. As of 2024, more than 4,000 million litres of water have been reused through this system.
Additional investments in SCRO (Super Concentrate Reverse Osmosis) technology aim to increase water recovery to 95%, significantly minimizing groundwater dependency. In parallel, Aarti has installed 14.2 MW of solar power generation capacity, contributing to a cleaner energy mix and lower carbon emissions.
The company’s raw material sourcing emphasizes responsible choices—using BCI cotton, organic cotton, and recycled fibres to support circular production models.
