The motto of Ahmedabad based Bhagwati Chemicals is to not only reduce costs of its customers from textile mills when they purchase dyes and chemicals, but also supply these products of the highest quality with timely services. This has resulted in Bhagwati Chemicals becoming a brand to reckon with.

The company currently supplies four important dyes and chemicals used by denim fabric and fabric processors which are mainly Sulphur Black dyes, Sodium Hydrosulphite (Hydro), Hydrogen Peroxide and Reactive Remazol Dyes. In Ahmedabad, which is known as the denim capital of India, Bhagwati Chemicals’ Sulphur Black dye and Hydro has a massive market share.
The dyes and chemicals are supplied with various compliances certificates which include Bluesign, ZDHC level 3, GOTS, Eco Passport, Kosher and Halal certificate.
Mr Harish Agrawal, Director of Bhagwati Chemicals got into the business of hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid, which are used while processing fabrics in 1985. In 1995, he identified textile dyes as another growth segment and started supplying dyes intermediates like H-Acid and VS to textile dyes manufacturers.
“During this phase, we gained knowledge in manufacturing of textile dyes and started toll manufacturing of dyes as we were already supplying raw materials for the dyes. However, we also set up our own high tech in-house laboratory in order to ensure that we do R&D and produce the best quality of black shade,” Mr. Agrawal told The Textile Magazine.
Within a few years, Bhagwati Chemicals started selling their dyes in various textile hubs of India. They also took up the challenge of producing colour shades like Black GDNN, Orange H2R, Orange W3R, etc, which were not normally produced by many local dyes producers as these colours tend to bleed if the quality is not up to the mark. The company competed against multinational companies on both quality and price in these dyes.
The 2000’s saw the emergence and massive growth of the denim industry in India, particularly in Ahmedabad and so there was high demand for Hydro, Sulphur Black, Indigo Blue and other chemicals. The company then got into the business of supplying Hydro and Sulphur Black dyes.
“In Sulphur Black and Hydro, we were competing with a big Indian company, but we received very good support from various pan-India denim mills. The combined sales of all our products stood at 3,600 metric tons in 2024,” he shared.
“Bhagwati Chemical has always strived to offer products of the highest quality at the most competitive prices than our biggest competitors, which is one of the main reasons for the success of our business, Our aim is to grow by providing superior chemical products and services that are always a step ahead, eco-friendly and become preferred supplier of textile mills,” Mr. Agrawal concluded by saying.
