Mohler Machine Works: Engineering the Future of Textile Automation

Mohler Machine Works, under the leadership of Mr. V. Balasubramanian and Mr. V. Benny Jerald, has been quietly but confidently transforming the textile machinery landscape with its state-of-the-art automation products. From a modest beginning as a selling agent in South India, the company has grown into a formidable manufacturer of advanced systems for spinning and weaving mills, both in India and overseas. In a candid conversation, Mr. Balasubramanian reflects on the company’s journey, the vision behind its modern manufacturing facility, and how Mohler is setting benchmarks through automation, smart technologies, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

A New Facility That Reflects a New Era

In December 2023, Mohler Machine Works moved into its new manufacturing facility—a modern, fully built plant with advanced machinery, computer-aided design software, and equipped boardrooms for internal and client discussions. As Mr. Jerald points out, “We built a modern facility to deliver cutting-edge products to the customer. It is a full-fledged factory with all necessary infrastructure to support innovation and collaboration.”

Comprehensive Product Portfolio for Global and Indian Markets

Mohler caters to both domestic and international markets with a range of products including Overhead Travelling Cleaners (OHTCs) for the spinning and weaving sectors, bobbin transport systems (manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic with stripper and exchanger), yarn conditioning plants in both round and cubical models, central vacuum cleaning systems -CENVAC, cone transport systems, spark diverter systems, and metal detectors. “Our first machine under the MOHLER brand was exported to Turkey in 2008,” recalls Mr. Balasubramanian. “Since then, our CE-certified products have found a presence in Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan, with exports contributing more than domestic revenue.”

Domestically, Mohler has established a stronghold in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, serving not just end-users but also original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Jupiter, Peass, Prashant Gamatex, Veejay Lakshmi, RESHMI and SSM.

Commitment That Converts Customers into Partners

Despite stiff competition from global and regional players, Mohler stands out for its consistent quality, performance, and post-sales service. “Once we enter a customer’s facility, they always come back to us for the next project. Our ability to deliver on our promises has enabled us to win repeat orders and grow in a competitive space dominated by giants,” says Mr. Jerald.

Technology, Innovation, and Smart Solutions

The company’s new facility includes a dedicated R&D wing focusing on both mechanical and automation solutions. Mr. Jerald reveals, “We are now working on AI-integrated products that will be launched at ITMA Asia in Singapore. These smart machines will not only be efficient but also capable of providing critical data to support decision-making.”

He emphasizes the importance of data in modern manufacturing, especially in spinning. “Having real-time data allows customers to track defects, maintenance needs, and energy consumption. Although integration across all machines isn’t possible, auxiliary machines like overhead travelling cleaners can be synced with online monitoring systems to offer meaningful insights.”

Remote Servicing and Global Readiness

Mohler addresses the challenge of after-sales service in export markets through a combination of trained agents and remote support. “We use advanced PLCs that allow remote diagnostics, so there’s often no need to visit the site physically. It ensures faster response times and better uptime for our customers,” he adds.

Reliable Components, Sustainable Practices

Mr. Balasubramanian stresses that the success of Mohler’s products is rooted in high-quality input materials. “We source stainless steel from Tata or Jindal, aluminum from Hindalco, PLCs from Siemens and switchgear from Siemens /Schneider. These globally available components ensure reliability and ease of maintenance.” Sustainability is another key focus. “Our products are designed for power saving and eco-friendliness. We’re planning to install rooftop solar panels to further our commitment to clean energy,” he confirms.

Looking Ahead: More Than Just Textiles

While Mohler’s core strength lies in spinning and weaving, the company is open to technology collaborations that would allow it to diversify. “We’re looking to expand into new-age segments beyond textiles. With the expertise we have in manufacturing and our strong client relationships, we believe partnerships could help us unlock new opportunities,” says Mr. Balasubramanian

From a small trading company to a globally respected manufacturer, Mohler Machine Works has come a long way. By embracing smart technologies, maintaining unwavering quality standards, and staying customer-centric, the company is poised to lead the textile machinery industry into a future defined by automation, sustainability, and innovation. As Mr. Jerald aptly sums it up, “We are here to meet not just current demands but also to anticipate and shape the needs of tomorrow.”
