Matin Spinning Mills Ltd. (MSML) is the brainchild of a cluster of dynamic visionaries set out to widen the horizon of Bangladesh with regard to its commendable contribution to the global trade in textiles and garments. Tiptoeing into the growing RMG sector of Bangladesh as a garments unit of the DBL Group in 2002, the sponsors of the company have since steered the enterprise to exponential growth, establishing several other concerns within the same industry. To-date, the authorized capital of the company stands at BDT 1,500 million and paid up capital is BDT 974.90 million.

The DBL Group is a diversified conglomerate which has vertically integrated apparel and textile manufacturing facilities, with concerns in ceramic tiles, Semiconductor Design (VLSI), Pharmaceuticals, Sewing Thread, Dyed Fiber & Yarn, ICT & Telecommunications, etc. The group started its journey in 1991, and it has emerged a conglomerate of 23 concerns.

The DBL Group has a dedicated and skilled workforce of more than 35,000 employees and had an annual turnover of $455 million for 2017-18. It supplies quality apparels to globally-renowned retailers and is focused on upholding the reputation of the readymade garments and the textiles industry of Bangladesh.

A diversified and integrated knit garments manufacturing and composite industry leader with a strong backward linkage, the group is one of the largest and 100 per cent export-oriented composite knit garments and textiles manufacturing firms. It produces single jersey, pique, fleece, terry, rib, interlock and variegated fabrics. The fibers used are cotton, viscose, polyester, rayon and elastane.

Over the years, the quality products of repute from the group have led the strong business relations with leading clothing brands like H&M, Walmart, George, Esprit, Puma, etc. The group is the largest vertically integrated producer in Bangladesh.

Expanding its horizon, DBL has now moved to Ethiopia and is setting up an integrated textile and garment factory titled DBL Industries PLC. The DBL Group supplies quality apparels to globally renowned retailers and is focused on upholding the reputation of the readymade garments and textiles industry of Bangladesh. Along with the sustained growth of the RMG sector in the country it is also busy expanding its RMG capacity.

MSML is an export-oriented company engaged in manufacturing and sale of combed, carded cotton, mélange and synthetic yarn from raw cotton, polyester and viscose fiber. The company manufactures and sells all types of Cotton, Viscose, Polyester, CVC, Melange, and Vortex yarn. Since inception on September 15, 2002, MSML has ventured into arranging necessary financing, procure land, import machinery and set up the production facility. Following a four-year preparation period, the company started commercial operation on October 1, 2006. MSML currently has a capacity of 73,184 spindles.

Mr. Abdul Wahed, Chairman of the Board, says: “We are happy to inform you that despite the challenging local and international market and a highly competitive industry, the company achieved a satisfactory level of sales revenue. All new projects undertaken in the last couple of years attained full-fledged growth in 2017-18”.

MSML is equipped with state-of-the-art machineries mostly of the US, German, Japan and Swiss origin. The company is proficient in producing yarn of many different specifications and providing tailor-made services to a myriad of clientele. By virtue of contemporary machineries, affluent management team and efficient workforce, the company has earned high reputation within the local spinning sector for its high production and quality.

Essentially MSML provides backward linkage to the garment units under the DBL Group. Along with continuing growth of the RMG sector in the country the DBL Group is also in the process of expansion of its capacity of RMG. Keeping in view of the future growth potential of the sector in the country the company has increased production capacity with the establishment of a Mélange and Synthetic unit to meet the RMG requirement. Currently total production capacity of the company is 51 tons of yarn in a day, including the Mélange unit and synthetic unit with a capacity of 10 tons and 16 tons respectively. This covers nearly 50% of DBL Group’s total demand.

Mr. M.A. Jabbar, Managing Director, said: “Recently we achieved the highest yearly volume of production in MSML’s history. Fully functional Mélange and Synthetic units throughout the year have made this possible. We strongly believe that with no power interruption we could achieve even more. Equipped with new units, MSML could now offer a wide range of products to meet the increasing demand of the RMG sector. The company’s total installed production capacity is 51 tons per day with 73,184 spindles”.

MSML has received licence from Cotton USA issued by the Cotton Council International, Washington DC, USA. All the major machineries of the company are state-of-the-art and of Swiss and Japanese origin. Major machineries are Rieter and Toyota and Murata. Operation of the factory is mostly automated and involves minimal manual input. The overall process adheres to the highest international standards. The plant is run by experienced and professional personnel.

Sustainable yarn production

As part of the 2020 goal, MSML now targets 20% of total output made from recycled production. MSML has launched a series of innovative products in the production line such as colour fiber injected yarn, Vario Siro yarn, Snow yarn, etc. In raw material consumption, the company is increasing sustainable and recycled fiber. The different innovations have enabled it to reduce waste, reusing cotton and recycling to form new yarns.

As an initiative to reduce the negative impact on the environment and consumers, Organic Cotton is imported from India to process organic yarn. Organic Cotton contributes to replenishing and maintaining the soil fertility, building biologically diverse agriculture and using less water. Use of harmful pesticides, insecticides, etc., is also eliminated here, which otherwise would affect farmers and wildlife. Currently about 8% of the total yarn production comprises is of organic cotton.

DBL’s manufacturing infrastructure

The DBL Group is among the best knitting industries of Bangladesh and manufactures the best quality garments for its clients. Over the years its quality products and reputation have created a strong business relation with the world’s famous clothing brands like H&M, Walmart, George, Esprit, Puma, and many more. The company has invested in the latest technology, energy-efficient machinery and environment-friendly production process to deliver the top quality to its clients. DBL has invested in Mayer & Cie., Terrot and Fukuhara to manufacture Single Jersey, Auto Stripe, Fleece, Rib and Interlock knitted products.

The company has invested in the best dyeing technology. DBL’s onsite lab creates quality color in the minimum time as per the customer needs. The company has invested in Sclavos dyeing machines and in Brückner, Osthoff, Santex, TubeTex, Ferraro, Lafer, Corino and Bianco processing machines. DBL has capability to dye and finish cotton, viscose, modal, nylon, polyester, wool, silk and its blends and with Elastane, and also very light to heavy fabrics. Finishing includes brushing, sueding, shearing, and singeing.

DBL is the first in Bangladesh to introduce the laser engraving technology from Europe for its fabric printing. The company has invested in two rotary printing machines, Reggiani & MHM and Reggiani Flat Printing.

Mr. Abdul Wahed, Chairman

Mr. Abdul Wahed is a renowned business executive in the textile and RMG sector of Bangladesh. After completion of Bachelor of Science, he started his professional life with the construction business in 1982. Later, in 1991, he, along with his three brothers, ventured into readymade garments export business by setting up a factory known as Dulal Brothers Ltd.

His expertise in textile technicality inspired Dulal Brothers to invest in backward linkage industries of fabric knitting and dyeing, which finally culminated into Matin Spinning Mills Ltd., a state-of-the-art spinning mill which is not only one of the best in Bangladesh but is worth comparing with spinning mills across the world.

Mr. Wahed is a freedom fighter. He is a proactive member of different social organizations working in the fields of education, health, orphanage, etc. He is also an eloquent speaker, capable of enthralling the audience at the various seminars he is participating on the social and business front. He was selected as the Commercially Important Person (Export) by the Bangladesh Ministry of Commerce for 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Mr. M.A. Jabbar, Managing Director

Mr. M.A. Jabbar is a distinguished personality in the RMG sector in Bangladesh. He is the main architect of the DBL Group. He completed his graduation in Computer Science in the US. Then he returned to Bangladesh with a vision to make a valuable contribution to the economy of the country. He has been instrumental in earning good reputation of the company. Accordingly, he joined Dulal Brothers Ltd. as Marketing Director and was able to achieve high export orders for garments, particularly from the buyers in the UK.

His dynamic leadership brought in growth opportunities for the company, resulting in setting up of more industries for Dulal Brothers Ltd. and the birth of the acronym DBL Group. His first accomplishment came in the form of the DBL Group getting the HSBC Export Excellence Award 2009 in Category A for business having export volume above $50 million.

Mr. Jabbar’s passion for excelling and cultivating innovation has attracted professionals from different fields to join the DBL Group and explore their hidden talents. He is the chief architect of Vision 2020 through which the DBL Group has to achieve a visible contribution to the GDP of Bangladesh before it steps into 2021, the Golden Jubilee celebration year of the country’s Independence.

Mr. Jabbar was selected as a Commercially Important Person (Export) for 2014 by the Bangladesh Ministry of Commerce.
