Emtec Electronic sets new standards with high-quality range of testing devices

While the German company has primarily catered to the testing requirements of the pulp and paper industry for several decades, it now offers a unique product for the textile industry too

Alexander Grüner, Global Marketing and Business Development Manager, Emtec Electronic GmbH

Germany-based Emtec Electronic GmbH is a leading manufacturer of highly specialised test devices for the pulp and paper industry. Founded in 1995 with its headquarters in Leipzing, Germany, the company has since 2014 tasted success in the nonwovens and textile industry with its test devices. The company is all set to showcase its product range for the textile industry during ITMA 2023. Speaking exclusively to Textile Magazine, Alexander Grüner, Global Marketing and Business Development Manager, Emtec Electronic GmbH, mentioned that the year 2022 was almost as good as 2019, the year before the pandemic hit the world. “Being able to meet with customers and partners face to face again and the return of the exhibitions were probably the highlights,” he noted.

Global Presence

According to Grüner, Europe and North America are probably the company’s strongest markets, followed by Asia, where China stands out.

Listing down the product range offered by the company globally, Grüner said, “We actually come from the paper industry where there exists a wide range of different test devices for research and development, process optimisation, incoming control or quality control, etc. For the textile industry, Emtec Electronic offers the TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer, a tool to measure haptic parameters of fabrics.”

ITMA Participation

The company is excited about participating in the forthcoming ITMA 2023 trade fair. “Emtec Electronic will participate with its own booth. The focus will be on the TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer,” he said about the company’s participation at the event. Explaining how the company’s products and technologies contribute towards sustainable manufacturing, Grüner stated, “With our product we actually help the industry to produce more sustainably since the test data helps to optimise the chemical consumption throughout the complete production chain of textile products, helps to produce textile products which are within the quality specifications that help to reduce waste and work as a language which can be used to set clear targets for the different haptic properties of a fabric that helps avoid misunderstandings – all this takes less than 1.5 minutes.”

Exclusive Features

Given that a customer has many options available, why should they consider Emtec Electronic for their requirements? Answering this question, Grüner highlighted, “I think that our approach of testing haptic properties is closest to what happens in the human hand and thus is closest to reality. The device is proven to function reliably and accurately in the tissue paper industry (toilet paper, hankies) where it is industrial standard, officially recommended as TAPPI TIP test method and shows a great correlation to the overall human tactile sensation. One further advantage of the TSA is the possibility to measure finished products which are, for example very thick.” These include baby diapers or finished products which are very narrow such as medical stockings, straps of backpacks or seatbelts with the help of special adapters. The device offers a lot of possibilities and options.” Specific knowledge about the individual parameters influencing the comfort factor helps nonwovens professionals to experiment with certain haptic traits, identify why one product is preferred over another, and ultimately develop consumer-pleasing new products. Grüner shared: “It is hard to say how things will evolve with the difficult situation in East Europe, increasing prices, and so on.”
