Gul Ahmed Textiles to create a larger footprint

With the recent inauguration of its knits processing plant, the Pakistan-based company is now all set to claim a larger share of the export pie

Gul Ahmed Textile Mills Ltd., a Pakistani textile company which manufactures and sells clothing through a chain of retail outlets under the name ‘Ideas by Gul Ahmed’, has recently inaugurated its knits processing plant, reiterating its commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. The inauguration of the plant was led by CEO Zaki Bashir and Director (Knits Processing) Kamran Kirmani. The plant is a hallmark of state-of-the-art technology and will enable Gul Ahmed Textile Mills to enrich its product portfolio and offer more value to its customers. The story of textiles in the subcontinent is the story of Gul Ahmed Textile Mills. The group began trading in textiles in the early 1900s.

It then entered the field of manufacturing with the establishment of today’s iconic name of Gul Ahmed Textile Mills in the year 1953. With state-of-the-art machines for spinning and most modern yarn dyeing, weaving, processing, digital printing, embroidery and stitching units, Gul Ahmed Textile Mills is a composite unit – making everything from cotton yarn to finished products. Besides, the company has its own captive power plant comprising gas engines, gas and steam turbines and backup diesel engines. It has also set up a wastewater treatment plant to treat 100% of its effluent, bringing it to NEQS levels. Gul Ahmed Textile Mills also has its strong presence in the retail business as well.

Starting from Karachi, it now has an extensive chain of more than 100 retail stores across the country, offering a diverse range of products from home accessories to fashion clothing. The company manufactures different qualities of yarn which include carded, combed, compact siro, fancy, plied, core spun, slub, package dyed or cone dyed, and gassed mercerized or dyed yarn. It has a facility to dye and print the whole range of home textile and apparel fabrics. In addition, it also has the set-up for back coating and flock printing. The company has ventured into export of garments. With the onset of the pandemic the company also entered into the production and export of PPEs and textile face masks.
