Orbit Exports installs Itema airjet looms

Orbit Exports Ltd. recently installed 24 new Itema airjet looms at its Surat plant, and commercial production of fabrics commenced on June 25. The company has also announced setting up of a wholly-owned subsidiary named Orbit International Inc., in California.

Orbit started commercial production at Jalgoan in Maharashtra in 1986. Its manufacturing plant in Surat was set up in 2010. The company deals with fancy textiles that find use in Christmas craft, home textiles and ladies dress materials. Its core strength lies in marketing value-added fabrics and metallic brocades to niche markets around the globe.

With traditional markets like Indonesia, Malaysia, Africa and Latin America and the US, the company sells its products to all specialised buyers. There has also been a significant increase in demand for various products offered by the company.

Orbit’s turnover has increased by 18.46 per cent from Rs. 10,210.74 lakhs in 2011-12 to Rs. 12,095.32 lakhs in 2012-13. The company has been taking all efforts to improve value additions, reducing operating costs and improving efficiencies to avoid high input costs.

Orbit is the largest manufacturer of metallic fabrics in India, exporting two million metres every quarter of its fabric. It is in fact the largest exporter of Christmas ribbons and made-ups from India, with a US market share of 65 per cent.

The only Indian manufacturer of fancy velour de lyon dress fabrics, it is also the largest exporter of silk substitute products and faux silk which finds a huge market in the high fashion industry.
