Sagar Manufacturers Pvt. Ltd. (SMPL) is a part of the Sagar Group that caters to three of the most important verticals, namely, Infrastructure, Education and Industry since 1983.

In a detailed discussion with The Textile Magazine, Mr. V.K. Jain, Executive Director, SMPL, touched on a number of issues of importance to the group, particularly its technology adoption and the overall management.

The edited excerpts:

Can you give a brief introduction of SMPL?

SMPL is located at Bhopal, and is equipped with the latest generation textile spinning machines – the ideal combination set up from leading brands of the world, with an installed capacity of 150,000 spindles + knitting, which will be expanded to 300,000 spindles with value addition and forward integration in the near future.

Why and how did you opt for the automatic packing system?

Our mills are fully automated with 100% Link-Coners, BTS, etc., and as a natural sequence, we were considering an automated packing system.

Moving from manual or semi-auto process to a fully auto mode of packing may have posed some problems. What were the major benefits of the ACP system in your actual experience?

We had concerns for reducing engagement strength in the packing process, so we moved for the automatic packing system. We have our strong belief that consistency of the process is reliable after we atomise the process. Manpower saving remains a by-product in automation.

However, in our experience, with three ACP systems in the last one year, fortunately the cost of packing material also has not escalated as feared, and the experience on moisture retention is also the same.

Besides saving manpower, the weighing system and recording is fool-proof and effective in controlling the packed weight to be within the tolerance.

The quality of packing is consistent. The packing data (net weight, gross weight, etc.,) are all recorded and available for integration to the mill IT. Overall we consider this a worthy investment.

How is your overall experience with Indo Texnology and its ACP?

When we planned for an automated packing system, we evaluated several options and finally decided on the ACP solution from Indo Texnology as smart solution, considering the investment and the return on it. In its ACP we found the features aligned to our existing process, and user friendly.

The first one was installed in June 2018. We took a few months to study it in detail, and the users to get comfortable in the operation and upkeep. Now we are equipped with three ACP systems to cover the packing of all our four units.

They also support us promptly when we need especially during the implementation of the first system. Now our engineers have become quite adept at handling all by themselves.

We are happy to have chosen the ACP from Indo Texnology.
