South India Mills Association (SIMA): Celebrating 90 Years of Textile Excellence

Initiated at the behest of Late Sir R K Shanmukham Chetty, the First Finance Minister of Independent India, SIMA commenced its journey with a modest 11 members. Over the decades, it has grown exponentially, boasting a membership of over 600, encompassing every sector from fiber to finishing. Additionally, various regional and segment-specific textile associations are affiliated with SIMA, transforming it into a comprehensive federation for the entire textile value chain.

SIMA has been a key player in shaping policies, participating actively in both Central and State Government bodies in South India. It has consistently taken a leadership role in policy-making bodies, ensuring that the interests of its members are well-represented.

At the core of SIMA’s mission is the vision to empower member mills. This involves facilitating the adoption of cutting-edge technology, promoting vertical integration, enhancing the scale of operations, and emphasizing value addition. SIMA’s commitment lies in ensuring that its members remain cost- effective and competitive in the dynamic textile market.

At the outset LMW congratulates SIMA and its office bearers for achieving the milestone in completing 90 years successfully. LMW and SIMA have had a long- standing association since their inception. Our Shri. G Kuppusamy Naidu was one of the founding members of the association in 1933 and was Second Chairman of the association during 1938-39. Our founder Cavalier Dr. G.K. Devarajulu also served as the Chairman of the association during 1958-60.

SIMA plays a key role in representing the requirements of the Textile Industry with the State and the Central Governments and with several other associations. We also appreciate SIMA CD& RA, The SIMA Cotton Development & Research Association in partnering with the Government for the development of cotton, producing genetically pure seeds and supplying to the farmers directly.
