Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State in the Ministry of Textiles, is of the firm view that the textile sector has a huge potential for providing a large number of jobs to the vulnerable section of the society.

Speaking on the issues plaguing the sector in Uttar Pradesh soon after taking over as Minister of State, he said that local artisans need a real push to help unlock the strengths of the region. “Zari Zardozi, carpet and many other local crafts have huge export potential, and if proper attention is paid this can be a strong source of improvement of the economy.”

Commenting on the Manjha industry of Bareilly, Mr. Gangwar said this industry has suffered and China has benefited from the situation. Ten thousand people were rendered jobless. “We will soon come out with a blueprint for the textiles industry.”

He said he would work towards promoting Brand India abroad and boosting the country’s textile exports. “On a visit to the US once I saw branded clothes and found they were made in India. I wish to promote Brand India across the world,” he added.

Mr. Gangwar was briefed on the occasion by the senior officers of the Ministry on the issues and developments in the textiles sector.
