Updeep Singh joins Sutlej Textiles as Deputy CEO

Mr. Updeep Singh has joined Sutlej Textiles as Deputy CEO with effect from January 24. Working together with the President, Mr. S.K. Khandelia, his current job responsibilities include taking care of the business operations in all verticals.

Mr. Updeep Singh’s vision is to help Sutlej to emerge a major textile player in India. He says: “There is enormous opportunity that lies ahead not only in the domestic market but also in exports as well, because major players in the US are outsourcing their furnishing fabrics from China and would like to switch to countries like India for its cost efficiency and quality of design. India has a big potential in the upholstery fabric industry too. The advantage of Sutlej is its strong management team with vast experience”.

Mr. Updeep entered the textile industry in 1987 at the age of 22. Starting his career with the Vardhman Group as a management trainee, he evolved to the position of Vice President (Projects).

In 2005 he joined the Welspun Group as the President (Projects and Commercial) and subsequently handled various responsibilities in his business role in India and abroad during his tenure of almost seven years. He briefly served as the Chief Operating Officer at NSL before joining ITEMA.

According to Mr. Singh, his experience at ITEMA had been enriching and he could not wish for anything better as a professional to have such diversified experience. He owes this to the wonderful relations and, in turn, support he enjoyed with the group management at the Italian HQ and the Indian team.

Under his leadership as Managing Director of ITEMA India, the company had achieved many milestones. Effective marketing & sales techniques, backed with after-sales support from the company, generated volumes and the brand’s presence in the country. Through these strategies the company managed to double its market share in the last four years with its presence in a good number of corporate clients. This was one of the biggest achievements during his tenure in the company.
