Prashant Mangukia, Director, Yamuna Machine Works

Yamuna Machine Works flagged off operations in 1990 and entered the Indian textile industry by introducing the stenter machine for the benefit of domestic companies. Ever since, there has been a plethora of new products and developments with the current director of the company, Prashant Mangukia opting to take the company in a unique, customer-centric direction. The stenter machine, a prized product of Yamuna Machine works, was introduced around 30 years ago, led by the vast expertise and background accumulated in this regard by the promoters at that time.

In addition to this, 1990 was a time when synthetic fabric was gradually being developed in India, which was a shift in focus from fabrics like cotton and silk. It was rightly predicted by Yamuna Machine Works at that time that the demand for synthetic fabrics would increase significantly in the following years and that the production of a stenter machine, which is a must to produce manmade textiles as well as home and technical textiles, would be a very profitable direction to take their company in. As of today, there are as many as 16 different machines available under their portfolio, right from singeing to finishing, all of which cater to processing and finishing of a wide array of fabrics.

These include wovens, nonwovens, knits, denims, and technical textiles. In particular, the segments involving technical textiles and denim are regarded by Mangukia as one their best achievements since the company has built itself a good reputation and commendable market-share in these segments over the years. Furthermore, as a result of constant innovation on the part of their stellar in-house research and development department, they have machines specially customised to cater to specific segments of the textile industry, with a focus on finishing machines.

Planned Expansion

The company currently operates with an annual production capacity of 130 machines for their complete range, about 50% of which make up the stenter business. Apart from the finishing machines, which have been a forte of Yamuna Machine Works, the company has also ventured into wet processing machines and this segment has also been growing considerably in recent times. With their machines exported to over 26 countries, including Europe, the US and South America, Africa, the CIS countries, the Middle East, etc, the reason behind the continuously growing demand is due to the fact that Yamuna Machine Works is very well placed geographically as well as in terms of value proposition.

Their machines are famed to be on par with that of European textile machinery in terms of quality and performance and provide customers with the utmost value for money. Additionally, the company has always been service-oriented and provides an impressive level of after-sale service that is highly appreciated by their customers. To sum it up, international standard technology sold at affordable prices, reliability and sincerity and a willingness to strive for customer satisfaction are the factors that have set Yamuna Machine Works apart from its competitors.

Overcoming the Pandemic

While the pandemic did present significant hurdles for the company to deal with, it is noteworthy that the demand for their products increased considerably once the pandemic relatively subsided. Due to mounting geopolitical tensions, India has been considered a preferred supplier in recent times, which has led to not only an increase in the demand for products offered by Yamuna Machine Works but also widespread acceptance of their brand on a global scale. The pandemic afforded them a chance to dedicate time towards optimising many aspects of their company to which the development of their reputation in the international market can be attributed to.

According to Mangukia, the company was preparing itself for a much graver situation than the pandemic turned out to be, and it was this meticulous preparation that led to their performance skyrocketing once the effect of the pandemic began to wane. The company’s most significant achievement in the last 10 years has been increasing their global presence as a reputable brand. While they were thriving in the domestic market a decade ago, their dedicated efforts towards improving their exports ever since proved to be fruitful and by the year 2021 exports made up an impressive 35% of their production capacity.

Slated for Growth

The company now boasts strong international presence and a roster of significant clients around the globe, some of which are Kusumgar Corporates, Starta Geosystems, Supreme, Welspun, etc. in the area of technical textiles and Bhaskar Denim, Nandan Denim, Sangam Group, Kanchan, and Ginni, among others, in the area of denim fabric. Also, Yamuna Machine Works today holds major market-share in carpet back-coating lines and carpet printing lines through strategic partnership with Zimmer, Austria. Yamuna Machine Works has delivered customised solutions for specific needs of the textile industry.

Mangukia strongly believes that the textile industry in India is just as susceptible to rapid development as other countries. According to him, the potential of the Indian textile industry is yet to be fully unravelled with new opportunities bound to present themselves in due time. “We are at the beginning of a new growth phase in the Indian textile industry and are very bullish about the overall scenario. The extent to which the emerging opportunities are utilised by companies will indicate the future of the industry in our country. At Yamuna Machine Works we will continue t design, develop and deliver an extraordinary line-up of state-of-the-art textile machinery, all manufactured to global standards of excellence,” he says.
