A Team: Building the Taiwan–India Bridge for Next-Generation Textiles

By K. Gopalakrishnan

Jintex’s Ganesh H.R. explains how A Team is combining Taiwanese machinery, chemistry, automation and process expertise to help Indian manufacturers accelerate their move into MMF, sportswear and technical textiles.

India’s textile industry is entering a decisive new phase. The country has built formidable scale and capability in cotton, but the next wave of growth is increasingly being shaped by man-made fibres (MMF), functional textiles, sportswear, athleisure and technical applications. Recognising this shift, Jintex Corporation Ltd. has joined forces with a group of established Taiwanese machinery, automation and textile-technology companies to create A Team—an integrated platform designed to bring Taiwan’s synthetic-textile know-how closer to Indian manufacturers.

In an interaction with The Textile Magazine, Ganesh H.R., Senior Vice President – South Asia, Jintex Corporation Ltd., explains why India’s synthetic-textile opportunity is gathering momentum, how A Team was conceived, and why technology must be supported by process knowledge, local service and application expertise if India is to compete successfully in global performance-textile markets.

Ganesh H.R., Senior Vice President – South Asia, Jintex Corporation Ltd.

India’s Synthetic Opportunity

India’s shift towards synthetics has become far more visible over the past three to four years. Jintex had been tracking the segment for more than a decade, but Ganesh says the recent acceleration is materially different in both pace and intent.
The structural reason is clear: while India remains strongly cotton-oriented, the global fibre mix is increasingly dominated by synthetics. International brands source large volumes of polyester-, nylon- and their elastane blended fabrics, particularly for sportswear, athleisure, outdoor apparel and other performance applications. That creates both a challenge and a substantial opportunity for India.

The domestic market is moving in the same direction. A large consumer base, rising disposable incomes and greater participation in fitness and active lifestyles are supporting demand for functional, stretch and performance fabrics. For Indian mills, this means the growth opportunity is no longer limited to conventional apparel categories.

“If we do not align with the global shift towards synthetics and performance textiles, we risk being left behind.”

For Ganesh, the message is not that cotton will lose relevance. Rather, India must broaden its capabilities so that global brands can increasingly look to the country for both natural-fibre and synthetic products across their complete sourcing portfolios.

Why Taiwan Matters

Taiwan offers a useful reference point for this transition. Over several decades, it has developed a tightly connected ecosystem spanning fibre and yarn, knitting, dyeing and finishing machinery, specialty chemicals & dyes, Ind. 4.0 automation, functional finishing and application research. Taiwanese suppliers and textile manufacturers are deeply embedded in global sportswear and performance-apparel supply chains. Taiwanese based vendors are estimated to be covering >70% procurements of leadings global activewear brands. Their strength lies not only in individual machines or products, but in the ability to integrate material science, processing, quality control and production technology into repeatable manufacturing systems. Most importantly driving innovations to cater future needs.

That distinction is important for Indian companies entering synthetic textiles. Buying machinery, specialty chemicals is only one part of the journey. Manufacturers also need process recipes, application knowledge, troubleshooting capability, technical training and people who understand how knitting, dyeing, finishing, chemistry and automation interact.

A Team was created to bridge precisely that gap.

How A Team Was Born

Jintex has been operating in India since 2011. Its early business was centred largely on textile chemicals for the established cotton-processing market. As global activewear and performance-textile demand expanded, customers began asking a different question: how had Taiwan built its synthetic and functional-textile capabilities, and could that ecosystem be made accessible in India?

The response was to build a collaborative platform rather than promote a single product. Jintex began bringing together Taiwanese companies across knitting, pre-treatment, dyeing, finishing, chemicals, automation and related technologies, creating a consortium capable of addressing the manufacturing chain as a whole. Because all these are integral part of eco system and need to offer total solutions under one roof.

The concept gained further momentum through visits by Indian industry delegations to Taiwan. These visits allowed manufacturers to see the technologies running in real production environments, study productivity and utility consumption, evaluate fabric quality and interact directly with A-Team companies, mills and research institutions.

That first-hand exposure helped turn technology discussions into investment confidence. The same philosophy now shapes A-Team’s approach in India. Several establishments have taken shape in last 2 years across breadth and length within Indian Subcontinent. Many more in pipeline at different stages of establishment.

Mr. Sunil Junjunwala, having established leading Indian sportswear brand TechnoSports and instrumental in the establishment of A Team, is supporting the initiative through A-Team showroom and machinery set-up at SIPCOT Perundurai. The facility enables prospective customers to see an integrated synthetic-textile operation in a practical production environment and understand the quality and process discipline required for performance fabrics. Several prospective customers have been visiting the facility over the past year to understand the technology, processes and quality achievable with a complete synthetic-textile set-up

A Single-Window Technology Ecosystem

A Team’s central proposition is straightforward: give Indian manufacturers access to a coordinated technology ecosystem instead of forcing them to assemble every element independently. On the machinery side, the consortium includes Pailung for knitting; Hsing Cheng for pre-treatment, finishing and automatic packing; Tong Geng and Tymico for dyeing and stenter technologies; Yu Bung for dyeing and dry finishing; and AutoFoam for foam-coating systems.

In chemistry, Jintex provides speciality textile chemicals and high-fastness disperse dyes for demanding polyester and polyester-spandex applications, while Everlight Chemical contributes dye solutions, including products for nylon. Logic Art supports integrated automation and total dye-house solutions.
These technology partners are complemented by experienced specialists who support technology selection, implementation, production optimisation and troubleshooting. Many of the participating companies bring four to five decades of expertise in their respective fields.

The aim is not to sell machines, dyes or chemicals as isolated inputs. It is to align equipment, chemistry, process knowledge, automation and technical service so that customers can build a stable and scalable synthetic-textile operation.

From Technology Supplier to Technology Partner

This integrated approach also changes the nature of the customer relationship. Ganesh says A-Team does not want Indian manufacturers to spend a decade learning synthetics through trial and error when proven know-how already exists.

Prospective investors can begin with technical discussions and process mapping, move to machinery and chemistry selection, and then visit Taiwanese manufacturing facilities, customer plants and research institutions to understand the technology in context.

After investment, the relationship continues through commissioning, production ramp-up and troubleshooting. Taiwanese specialists can support critical stages on site in India, while local technical teams provide continuity after the project moves into regular production.

The objective is to shorten the learning curve, reduce avoidable process uncertainty and help customers achieve consistent quality faster.

Local Capability Makes the Model Work

For an international technology platform, local support is essential. Jintex’s India operation has evolved from a trading business into an organisation with formulation and manufacturing capability, laboratories, R&D infrastructure and a technical and sales network across the country.

The Indian team has grown to around 50 people, many with hands-on production experience. A Team’s machinery partners have also been developing local service capabilities through trained technicians and regional representation in major textile clusters.

Ganesh sees this as critical to technology adoption. Customers are far more comfortable investing in new processes when commissioning support, troubleshooting and application expertise are available locally rather than being dependent entirely on overseas intervention.

Knowledge-sharing is another part of the model. A-Team has conducted seminars in major textile centres including Coimbatore, Surat, Ahmedabad and Ludhiana, introducing manufacturers to synthetic-textile opportunities and the technologies required to produce high-quality MMF and functional fabrics.

Jintex: Chemistry for Performance and Sustainability

Within the A-Team ecosystem, Jintex plays a central role in textile chemistry and functional finishing. Its portfolio covers speciality chemicals for cotton, polyester, nylon and blends across fibre, yarn and fabric processing.

For sportswear, one of the most important performance requirements is moisture management. Polyester and polyester-spandex fabrics must move moisture away from the body while maintaining comfort, handle and durability. Jintex’s offering includes moisture-management solutions, fluorine-free water-repellent technologies and other speciality finishes designed for such applications.

The company also supplies speciality disperse dyes for high-fastness polyester and polyester-spandex applications, where colour performance must meet demanding international buyer standards. Sustainability is an equally important development area. Jintex has been working to replace selected fossil-fuel-based intermediates with biomass-derived alternatives. Its portfolio includes auxiliaries containing anywhere 25% to 95% biomass-based ingredients, covering applications from pre-treatment through finishing for cotton, polyester and nylon. Probably only such company to offer wide range of Bio mass based products in the world.

Building India’s Sportswear and MMF Capability

A Team’s broader objective goes beyond equipment and chemical sales. It is designed to help accelerate India’s capability-building in synthetic and performance textiles.
Indian manufacturers are already investing in polyester processing, knitting, dyeing and sportswear, often beginning with smaller capacities before committing to larger expansion. For companies entering a new segment, access to proven technologies and experienced technical support can materially reduce the uncertainty of that transition.

The consortium already has complete-package engagements with customers including TechnoSport, Vardhman, Best Corporation to name few. Other Indian manufacturers have adopted individual A-Team technologies in areas such as automation, chemistry and dyeing.

The TechnoSport association has also given A-Team a practical demonstration platform in India—an important step because manufacturers can evaluate the technology as a functioning production system rather than as a collection of standalone products.

The model is beginning to attract interest beyond India as well, with engagements in Vietnam and Bangladesh indicating its relevance to other Asian textile markets undergoing similar transitions.

India ITME 2026: Technology, Knowledge and the Next Phase

A Team expects India’s synthetic and sportswear sectors to deepen significantly as manufacturers gain confidence and global buyers diversify sourcing. At INDIA ITME 2026, the consortium plans to showcase technologies and products with particular emphasis on functional textiles, sustainability and carbon-footprint reduction.

The platform will not be used only to display equipment. Ganesh says the larger intent is to share current global processing practices, help manufacturers understand where technology is moving and encourage Indian entrepreneurs to explore Taiwan’s manufacturing and research ecosystem first-hand.

Towards a Broader Global Role for India

India already has many of the ingredients required to become a major global supplier of synthetic and functional textiles: scale, manufacturing experience, an entrepreneurial base, a large domestic market and a growing appetite for investment. The missing link has often been access to an integrated technology ecosystem and the practical know-how required to deploy it effectively and confidently.

A-Team is attempting to close that gap by combining machinery, chemistry, automation, process expertise, local service and direct access to Taiwan’s established manufacturing and research network.
Taiwan’s experience demonstrates what can be achieved when machinery manufacturers, chemical companies, textile producers, research institutions and other stakeholders develop in parallel over time. A-Team’s ambition is to help Indian manufacturers compress that learning curve.

As global demand continues to expand across MMF, functional fabrics, sportswear, seamless garments and technical textiles, the opportunity for India is to complement its traditional cotton strength with equally credible synthetic capabilities. For A-Team, the long-term goal is clear: help position Bharat as a recognised global source not only for cotton textiles, but also for high-quality synthetic and performance products.
