AKS Embroidery is part of the Tip Top Group with interests in varied fields, including garment exports, dyeing and finance. According to Mr. L. Jaganathan, Director, it was during 2000 that the idea of establishing an exclusive embroidery unit struck the group when it was finding it extremely difficult to find people for computerized embroidery job work. Going into details he said: “Our company was established in 2001. Our family has been into exports since 1994. We found it difficult to find companies doing embroidery job work in the early 2000s. This was the trigger for our entering this field. We have grown steadily over the years and are now a well-known name in computerized embroidery.”

The number of computerized embroidery job work units in Tirupur has grown over the years, as pointed out by Mr. Jaganathan: “When we entered the embroidery business there were about 2,000 units. Today the number has gone up to over 3,500.”

The company has a wide clientele from Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Some of the top names that it deals with include US Polo Association, Go Go International, Tirupur, Eastman, Tirupur, Rich Global, Bengaluru, Ambattur Clothing, Chennai, ITC Trading, Chennai, and Peacock, Madurai. Some of the top international brands which the company services include Diesel, Disney and H & M.

A strong focus on infrastructure has mainly contributed to the company success. Highlighting this crucial aspect, Mr. Jaganathan observed: “Our computerized embroidery unit boasts of machinery from Barudan and Tajima, both globally renowned Japanese brands.” Every facility in the unit is manned by a team of highly skilled and competent workers. The 100-member staff take care of different functional areas, including, accounting, production, marketing and despatching.

A consistent quality focus has been another key reason for the success of AKS Embroidery. An exclusive in-house quality assurance team takes care of every aspect of quality in this ISO 9001: 2008-certified company. Throwing more light on the topic, he said: “Our commitment to quality is what has set us apart from others. We are also very particular about product finish. It is this commitment that has enabled us to strike long-term relationship with all our clients. Our satisfied clients are our biggest advertisement.”

Role in TCEAL

Mr. Jaganathan is one of the Directors of Tirupur Computer Embroidery Accessories Ltd. (TCEAL). Established in 2010 it caters to the needs of the computer embroidery community by supplying them with quality raw materials and accessories. TCEAL has set up an exclusive outlet in Tirupur. The products supplied by the outlet include rayon threads, polyester threads, sewing threads, sequence materials, all types of foams, all sizes of needles, machinery oil, embroidery interlining, embroidery felt, packing materials, bobbin cone and other spare materials.

Optimistic outlook

Mr. Jagananthan is optimistic about the continued good showing of the Tirupur apparel and hosiery industry. Dwelling on the topic, he said: “The last few years have been tough for the industry here. While exports have gone up, we should also remember that production costs have gone up too. Similarly, bank interest rates, as also transportation costs have moved up further. Besides, there are issues like labour and currency value fluctuations which have hit the profit margin of exporters. Competition from countries such as Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, Cambodia and Thailand is also mounting. However, things have started improving with the Government taking reassuring measures, and I feel that we can see positive growth in the immediate future.”

According to Mr. Jaganathan, the economy looks set for a turnaround and the textile industry should remain hopeful of good times ahead.
