Natural Fibre Conclave stress on technology upgradation

The first Natural Fibre Conclave organized by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) in Coimbatore on July 22 saw experts discuss the growing potential, as well as constraints in the natural fibre sector. The conclave, with its theme ‘Sustainability, Efficiency, Competitiveness’, saw lively interactive sessions which threw up key solutions to spur growth and investment in the natural fibre segment.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Prem Malik, CITI Chairman, cited the enormous growth potential of the Indian textile sector. “While demand trends are bound to fluctuate, there is no doubting the growth potential,” he said and calling upon the textile industry to explore new areas and upgrade technology in order retain its competitive edge.

In his address on ‘Influence of Raw Material and Modern Spinning Technology’, Mr. T. Balamuralikrishna, General Manager, LMW, spoke on the different types of natural fibres available, the global fibre market and how modern spinning technology is bringing about rapid changes in the textile industry.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, past Chairman of CITI, focused on how the Indian textile sector has all the potential to reach further dizzy heights. Steps have to be taken soon for modernizing the textile sector.

The conclave saw experts drawn from across the textile sector participate enthusiastically in sessions on Innovative Approaches for Textile Business, Natural Fibres- Opportunities & Threats, and Value Addition in Natural Fibres.

Mr. J. Thulasidharan, CITI Vice Chairman, proposed a vote of thanks.
