Dr. Kavita Gupta was addressing the textile engineers from SASMIRA at India ITME 2016 in Mumbai.

Stressing that textile machinery manufacturing in India needs to catch up with the world level, Dr. Gupta shared several incentives available in this regard. “It is only in the textile industry where a single unit is eligible for all incentives. On display at India ITME 2016 are the world’s best innovations and technologies. A total of 1,050 manufacturers of textile machinery from across 38 countries are showcasing their products. The world’s best names are looking into India as one big opportunity. It is an opportune time that we start exploiting the opportunity ourselves. Strengthening of domestic industry will ensure that we create more jobs for ourselves”, she concluded.

The textile sector is one of the largest contributions to India’s exports with approximately 11 per cent of total exports. India’s overall textile exports in 2015-2016 stood at $40 billion.

The six-day exhibition witnessed dozens of product launches and proved an effective platform for joint ventures and collaborations by the stakeholders of the textile industry in India and overseas.
